Mahalakshmi Tiffin Room is one of the legendary restaurants in the Town and famous landmark in Basavanagudi after Vidyarthi Bhavan. This restaurant was named as Lakshmi Bhavan initially and food use to be served in very traditional manner during 90’s and following now as well. It was later rechristened Mahalakshmi Tiffin Rooms.
This restaurant is located in Busy DVG road and well known for localities in South Bangalore. This place is a second house for Kannada Writers during 90’s. As you know Basavanagudi is one of the oldest areas in the town.
Ambiance of the restaurant remains almost same from 90’s with Wodden Menu, Tables and Bari gates.

They do have a family room which is separated by wooden walls again. There are so many old restaurants where they keep the dishes in the wooden showcase and this is one among them.
They still have a Double Wodden Door in the Entrance. During 80’s and 90’s houses in Bangalore use to have these kind of Doors and that’s one of the attraction.

Service is really good and quick as well.

Coming to the food, they serve Kali Dosa, Masala Dosa, Special Masala Dosa, Rice Bath and Chow Chow Bath. Kali dosa is a signature dish in this restaurant and trust me it melts just like that with the super spicy chutney which they serve. Masala Dosa is again good but not best compare to other legendary restaurants in this locality. Special Masala Dosa is one of my favorites and second dish to order after Kali Dosa. Special Masala Dosa prepared with Ghee and you will just fall in love with it and they provide thick chutney for this dish. My breakfast will not end without tasting their Hot Pulao, yes they serve best south Indian Pulao as well and tastes awesome with Mosaru Bajji (Raitha).

Strong Coffee is as good as we get in Vidyarthi Bhavan and must try if you are a coffee lover.

They have a strong customer base, that’s why it will be crowded with all Senior Citizens and students of this locality. I noticed people do come along with their grandchildren to here
This is again a Value for money restaurant and breakfast for two will not cross 200 rupees. I strongly recommend this place if you are in Basavanagudi. Taste is slightly down compare to before but there is no harm in visiting these kinds of restaurants.
