Rock Salt – A Modest Roof Top Restaurant and Bar, St Marks Road, Bangalore

May 30, 2018

Exploring new restaurants are usual affair these days. So, I found Rocksalt recently. It’s a brain child of renowned Chef Mr. Abhijit Saha. He is the man who took molecular gastronomy to Bangalore through Fava & Caperberry. The place has made noise ever since it was started because of innovative cocktails and regional Indian food. Well, I marked my visit earlier last week for dinner.

It’s one of the best roof top restaurants I visited so far in Bangalore. The ambiance is breathtaking and nevertheless, a fabulous place to go with family and friends. The place offers alfresco, high tables and chairs to suit according to one’s mood. The huge bar counter and vertical garden adds beauty to the overall place.

My dinner started with Pani-Puri, you heard it right – They got a Pani Puri on the menu. However, its poshest version I would say with respect to presentation and fillings. While having and endorsing the back to back puri’s Baked Samosa arrived on our table. The samosas were really good and perfect with the chutney. The dish is crumbly, slight crunchy and stuffing is not so greasy. It’s slightly on the spicy side. Dahi ke kebab is something everyone should try! It’s served with Salad and mint chutney. This melt in mouth dish is totally gooey and extremely mushy. It has right level of hot and sourness. Khasta Roti Tacos with Amritsari Chole – I would say small “Nippattu” shaped tacos which are crunchy and topped with authentic amritsari chole.  A pinch of lime addition made the dish even delicious. I did like the dish and will certainly go for it in my next visits too.

I did not see any drama in main course with respect to taste or presentation except the beautiful and specially designed serving bowls. In main course I have tried olive and parmesan naan with Daal Makhani and Kadhai Paneer Moderne. Well, olive and parmesan cheese topped on our authentic butter naan. It has the unique sour and bitter flavor, which I started liking after a couple of servings. Daal Makhani was just superb with rightness of creamy, buttery and flavor. Kadhai Paneer Modern is surely modest again because of Paneer Timbale (Chenna) topped with tossed bell peppers and kadhai masala. Zeera Pulao was just ok and one can probably skip it.

My dinner was finished with Rocksalt Jalebi with rabri – It was served in a rabri foam filled martini glass. The Jalebi was crispy and not too sweet, with rabri it’s a heaven feel. Caramel Baked Yogurt was more like a Mishti Doi with mini Rasgullas and Pistachio Tuile.

White Owl Spark was the perfect companion especially for all the starters!

The service was prompt and took care of us nicely without any hassles. They were good with respect to suggesting good dishes, kudos to all the guys. Overall it’s a recommended place.
