Mysore or Mysuru is one of the famous holiday destinations in Karnataka. The city is well known for the world famous “Palace of Mysore”. This is a historical palace in the city of Mysore in Karnataka, southern India. It is the official residence and seat of the Wodeyars — the rulers of Mysore, the royal family of Mysore, who ruled the princely state from 1399 to 1950. Along with the Palace, there are many attractions like Ranganathittu, Chamundi Hills, Brindavan Gardens, Nanjanagudu and Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden. These are the must visit places, if you are in Mysore.

I had been to Mysore City numerous times with friends and family for some family get together, weddings and tour. However, my last visit was completely unique and memorable. In the above section I have mentioned about the places to visit in Mysore and at the same time, stay is something which is very important when you visit any holiday destinations.

Well, I was invited to Grand Mercure, Mysuru to experience the stay! I was totally thrilled to visit Grand Mysore. Since, I had a positive experience with Grand Mercure, Bangalore several times. I happened to visit in the month of July’16 with few of the Food Bloggers in the city and it was a fulfilled road trip with Breakfast and Pit stops. In the current Road Condition, we can drive to Mysore in 2.5 hours from Bangalore!

We reached Grand Mercure, Mysore around 1pm and the welcome was fabulous with “Mysore Mallige” garland, Sandalwood Thilak and Welcome Drink. The rooms were quickly allocated to everyone without many hassles! The Grand Mercure has a 146 deluxe, executive and suite rooms Hotel located in Mysore city. The relaxed, laidback vibe of this design invites the guests to spend their days lounging by the pool, or at the viewing terrace over-looking the traffic free and green city. Each room features a comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar, electronic safe, flat screen LCD TV, work desk, hair dryer and mineral water.

After one hour relaxation, our lunch was ready at “La Uppu” – It’s one of the popular restaurants in Grand Mercure which serve Indian and Gourmet food. La Uppu is discovered by amalgamating French word “La” and Kannada word “Uppu”, which is SALT. The nomenclature comes from the fact that salt is the first ingredient to be served during a meal and in Kannada. La Uppu is again a fine dining restaurant with modern interiors with portico seating! They have showcased the tradition of Mysore by holding some of the household objects as soon as you get inside.

A special Ramadan lunch with a set menu was arranged for us! The menu consisted of Surkh laal shorba, Palak aur khobani ki tikki, Dum Aloo Sikandari, Mulakat e Mussalam, Sunehri Moong Dhuli, Veg Awadhi Biryani. In desserts, there was Kesari Phirni aur Kulfi and Pan shot!

Surkh laal shorba – It was served with Roti, which is something unique. The Shorba has right amount of spice level and flavor to kick start the most awaiting Ramadan lunch. This was presented nicely to give an exclusive fine dining experience.

Palak aur khobani ki tikki – The dish looks similar to Hara Bara Kebab. However, there is a twist by making use of Palak & Khobani. It was blended perfectly and spice level was not so high, which was served with spicy onion salad in Roasted Poppadam. A recommended dish for a Vegetarian!

In Main Course, there was Dum Aloo Sikandari and Sunehri Moong Dhuli with Indian Breads. The Sunehri Moong dal was light and non-spicy with loads of ghee. It tastes like a homemade dal. However, Aloo Sikandari was a show stopper in the Vegetarian category. Though the dish was little sweeter side, it was perfectly done when it comes to presentation, texture and taste of the dish. The thick dish won by many hearts during the lunch.

Our lunch ended with fruitful desserts Kesari Phirni aur Kulfi & Pan Shot. After this scrumptious lunch, I was completely relaxed for few hours at my room in Grand Mercure, Mysuru.

Along with La Uppu, they also have “By the Blue” – A roof top North Indian restaurant with Pool and “Silk Bar” – A lounge which is yet to start serving Alcohol. The Silk bar is cozy with few lounge seats and décor is antique and classic. The whole setup is more like a Mysore Silk Saree themed. We could try some of the signature Mocktails from a Silk Bar, which are decent and served nicely. Though we haven’t tried the food at By the Blue, but we experienced the soothing environment at Roof top. I am sure it’s going to be a hot spot for the dates and special occasions.

Our dinner was again pretty nice with mishmash of Italian and continental, which include Amuse Bouche, Pizzas and beautiful Chocolate Tower.

It was an unforgettable experience and would love to stay again at Grand Mercure! Though, it’s business star hotel, the prices are quite reasonable, which is something commendable in Places like Mysore.
