Royal North West Frontier Meal to Remember for Lifetime – The Royal Afghan, ITC Windsor

November 8, 2017

ITC Windsor is never just a Hotel for 80’s kid, it is more than that. Yes, I remember most of the movies shot at that age included ITC Windsor bridge. So, visiting ITC Windsor is a nostalgic feel. I was here to explore some Afghan cuisine at Royal Afghan during the 35th birthday of the restaurant.

The décor of the place excited me, I could see lattice work frames around the place. Soft music rendered a soothing effect. The crystal clear blue waters of the pool added to the ambience. With all this, Bangalore weather also contributed to the wonderful afternoon.

I was happy to have food at a legendary place, which is celebrating its 35 years with the same menu. Yes, this restaurant has the same menu since its existence. The menu is simple with around 20 dishes. Royal Afghan is well known for their dal makhni which is called dal bhukara, sikandari raan, and naan Bukhara to name a few.

With limited options, Royal Afghan ensures to never disappoint any of its customers. So, let me start with my lunch menu, I started with a panner starter, it was grilled with mild flavor, panner was soft and just melted in the mouth. Next was subz seekh kebab, which was well made with beautifully maintained flavors of tangy and salty.

The next one to arrive was dal makhani and the naan Bukhara, the combination was excellent and could not resist the temptation to have more. There were lot of varieties lined for the sea food lovers, I could see my non-vegetarian friends enjoying the sea food. Even I had option of Panner makhani, tandoori phool, aloo tandoori, and vegetable platter. All of them put together rendered a royal treat to my tummy.

Lastly, how can one ignore desserts, meal is never complete without them. Tasty, juicy, and yummy gulab jamun marked happy ending of my meal. Kulfi and sweet paan not to be left out for giving a logical end to this royal session.

Special thanks to Master Chef Riyaz Ahmed and his team for keeping the traditional wonderful menu for 35 years!

On the Occasion of 35th year Birthday, the hotel also treated with a glass of Champagne and a dessert along with Meal.

Note: The Royal Afghan is functional everyday for dinner and Weekend, it would be both lunch and dinner.
