Royal Treat of Awadhi and North West Frontier food trail curated by Master Chef Abdul Quddus at Spice Terrace, JW Marriott, Bangalore

March 8, 2017

JW Marriott is one of my favourite hotels in Bangalore and the excitement never lasted though I visited several times. I have experienced the food & hospitality at their inhouse restaurants JW Kitchen and Alba. However, I couldn’t get a chance to visit Spice Terrace until last month.

When JW Marriott extended their invite for a Spice Terrace, I happily accepted & added to calendar. The Spice Terrace has appealing food and decor. We were there for the exclusive preview of delectable Awadhi and North West Frontier food trail curated by Master Chef Abdul Quddus. A young chef though is a shy natured, shows his full-fledged talent in making fabulous dishes.

It’s a perfect place for romantic dining experience. Precisely, the place has a fabulous ambiance which everyone will certainly appreciate.

As part of this preview, there was a preset menu with array of Veg & Non Veg Dishes. These were made perfection with lot of effort & fresh ingredients. I am sure, these fusion stuff don’t get at other places. I want my food to be good more than decor & service whether it’s Star Hotel, Fine Dining or Casual Dining restaurant. Here I am totally impressed and happily recommend to others.

What did I eat? My dinner started with a glass of champagne followed by appetiser, soup, main course and desserts.

Quinoa Aloo Bhukara Kebab was the first dish to arrive on my plate in appetisers. The dish is succulent & flavourful with mint green Chutney. The dish is slightly spicy & mild sweetish. Narangi Shammi was the next dish which is made out of lotus stem & potato stuffed with orange. The dish gave a unique feeling & I was thoroughly enjoyed it. Paneer Tikka Lazzez – Since we don’t get good Paneer in Bangalore. So, the Paneer dishes are not so good in the town except few places. Hence, I eat paneer at few places these days. But here also, the paneer wasn’t so soft. However, marinated perfectly and stuffed with nuts, saffron and hung Curd. Though it was not so soft, still I liked because of the taste & flavours. PS: The dish doesn’t require chutney at all.

Subz Ashrafi Shorba was the vegetarian soup made with vegetable stock, vegetable quenelles and mild spices. It was presented nicely by pouring vegetable stock in a veg quenelles soup bowl. A must try Shorba!

In Main Course, I tried Dal E Awadh, Subz Abir, Kumbh Mutter Makhana Korma and Subz Chilman Biryani along with Indian Breads. I liked Subz Abir which is made with spinach, cottage cheese and fenugreek. The dish looks definitely great because of the green texture. They have used fresh spinach in making this dish. The baby tomatoes made the dish even colourful. It’s out of the world.

Subz Chilman Biryani – Best Awadhi Biryani I had till date. The Biryani is aromatic, flavourful and slightly less on spicier side. This is a showstopper & enjoyed every bite of it.

Our dinner ended on a sweet note with Shahi Malai Tukda, Shahd E Jaam & Kulfi Falooda.

I was pretty impressed with Shahi Malai Tukda, the knob of fried bread absorbed the condensed milk perfectly and tasted indeed great! The dish garnished with silver foil, pistachios and so much of saffron.

They have used Saffron in most of the dishes to give a royal feeling & enhance flavours.

Overall, it was a great experience to be part of this exclusive preview. Based on this, I recommended to couple of my friends & relatives, they also experienced the similar experience.
