Varenyam – A New Andhra Style Restaurant in Electronics City Phase 1

February 29, 2016

I was wondering, why the restaurant folks chose a name, which is difficult to pronounce. But this curious mind did some browsing on google! Varenyam signifies our acceptance of God, and can be translated as meaning “Who is worthy”. If you visit here, I am sure you will get a feel of a spiritual center. I would love to pronounce the word “Varenyam” after knowing the meaning of it.

Well, Varenyam is a newly opened Andhra Style or I would say Traditional Andhra Style restaurant located near BDA Complex and above Pizza hut in Electronics City Phase 1. A one month old restaurant and has been popularized because of the “Word of Mouth” one of the fastest source of media.

I happened to visit here, along with my coworkers on last Friday for dinner. Since one of my co-workers had a good experience during his last visit. We were there around 8.30pm and could see a full house. However, one table was unoccupied.

The place has a simple ambience, but makes you think so much because of the antique tables, few black & white photo frames. In my terms, it looks similar to the old Bangalore house, or rather Malgudi Days. A slight touch up is required, but ok as far as we get good food. The place is neatly maintained and yes, there is a balcony though for people who love to dine outside.

A smiling waiter had come to take our order and he was polite and good is suggesting dishes. We ordered few Veg & Non Veg starters more than a Main Course. Not only here, when we go in a team, we always go with starters and few people end their dinner with starters itself. Being a foodie, my dinner or lunch will not be complete without Starter, Main course and dessert. A disappointment is there are no desserts on the menu.

Being a Vegetarian, I saw some interesting Veg Starters like Stuffed Mirchi Bajji, Onion Pakoda and Aloo Tikka along with the regular fare. We tried Stuffed Mirchi Bajji, it was ok, but spice level was low. Mushroom Chili was something everyone loved. Since the mushroom was fresh and perfectly fried with essential ingredients. The dish was crispy outside and soft inside! Onion Pakoda, a dish which everyone loves and especially south Indians! It was priced cheap and good amount of the portion. I would prefer this dish before your favorite Biryani arrive on the table. Non-mushroom eaters decided to order Baby Corn Pepper dry, which wasn’t there on the menu. However, they were very kind enough to prepare for us, which is commendable!

Our Non Veggie Co-workers were keen on Vegetarian stuff! They haven’t enjoyed much with any of the dishes, that’s something restaurant should really work on. Since, there are Non Veggies more than Veggies in the locality 😛

In Main course, we ordered Aakakura Pappu, a traditional dal made with Spinach – It was indeed great and appealing to try more. But my poor tummy always craves for a Biryani, if that is available on the Menu.  Yes, I ordered a Rajugari Veg Biryani; it was too good and delicious though. But I wasn’t happy with so called Salan. Since, it tastes like a Tomato Gojju. But my favorite raitha saved me!

We also ordered Tandoori Roti & Malai Kofta – Malai Kofta needs a lot of improvement! We felt it’s too sweetish and creamy! Tandoori Roti’s were good enough!

The prices are pretty reasonable and this restaurant will give a perfect competition to the neighborhood eateries if they improve on Non Vegetarian stuff!

Improvements: Presentation, Portions of few dishes and introducing few desserts.

I will strongly recommend this place for a Vegetarian Stuff!
