Italian cuisine signifies simplicity. Not many ingredients but it is all about making the best utilizing the less number of ingredients. It should be accepted that it is one of the popular cuisines across globe and I am one among them who admires this cuisine. One more place which I did find for the love of my Italian cuisine was the Mezzaluna in Movenpick.
A pleasant Sunday evening, the warm Italian spread extended a great welcome for us. As I entered into the restaurant, I was totally carried away with the ambiance; I was engrossed for a moment in enjoying the place. The table was decorated with candles, which added elegance to the décor. Moreover, the walls were decorated with portraits adding color to the place. The session began with a watermelon based welcome drink and Beer!
Chef Armando Di Filippo kept the entire session lively with his interaction about his way of cooking the Italian food and explaining what makes it unique. The curated menu included best pizzas and calzoni. The whole spread for the evening was prepared out of same dough, mentioned the chef. But all of them differed in taste and appearance due to varied temperature of cooking. Chef strongly believes that dough plays a vital role in any pizza as it determines the taste of the whole dish. From the starters until calzoni, the last dish for the day all of them seemed to be light, yet filling.
The starters consisted of bread sticks, Jalapeno Cheese Balls and Bruschetta. All the 3 starters in the Platter were good and appealing!
Following were the rest of dishes which were served followed by the starters:
Colosseo – Cacio e pepe (Cheese and crushed black pepper): The pizza was simply superb. It was nothing but only the black pepper with cheese, it made a great combination. The mild pepper flavor melted with cheese to give a perfect blend. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Trinita’ Dei Monti – Ricotta, tartufo e olive (Artichoke and asparagus): Wow! It was the “Dish of the Day,” the asparagus topped on the light pizza base refreshed my palate as well as added a unique flavor.
Linguine Pizza – I have had tried varieties of Pizzas with different bases and toppings. However, this is completely unique. Since, there is a creamy linguine on Pizza base. The Pizza tastes prodigious, only the Pasta lover will enjoy this Pizza.
Aventino – All’arrabbiata (Arrabbiata Sauce): The Pizza was little spicier side because of the Angry Arrabbiata sauce with finest cheese. The base was as usual Crispy. Arrabbiata sauce is usually served with penne pasta!
Via Del Corso – Crema di peperoni e zucchini (cream of bell pepper and zucchini): This was served in Calzoni and tastes certainly great! However, I felt Bell Pepper & Zucchini stuffing was less and could have been added more!
None of the meal is complete without dessert. It was Tiramisu to finish our supper. The dish was feast to our eyes before we could consume that. It was presented creatively, leaving us to drool. The Tiramisu was Fluffy, light and Chocolaty! It was heavenly and perfect to end an outstanding dinner.
